In warmer climates, the female trees produce clusters of vibrant orangish to reddish fruit. The pulp of these fruits is edible, but there isn't much in comparison with the large seed. Despite being fruit-bearing, they do not attract many pests. As the trees grow, the trunks develop a fascinating and beautiful geometric diamond pattern, making the Canary Island date palm a good choice if you have a semi-formal landscape that requires a little more symmetry.
